January 25 1997 Concert Review
By Andrew Truston (athurston@cois.on.ca)
Wow!!! I just got back from the Our Lady Peace show at Sir Sanford
Fleming College in Lindsay (The Amoury) Jan. 25/97 Here is my reveiw:
My night started with a two hour drive from Barrie to Lindsay,(it was
snowing heavily), then we didn't know if we could even get tickets. It seems
that this show was some sort of pub for the college, with most of the
tickets reserved for Alumni. We (me and five buddies), then had to stand in
a lineup for 45 minutes, because they would not let anyone in, not with
tickets or people who needed tickets, we just thought it was a little
unnessesary when the Amoury was practically empty. Once we defrosted our
major body organs and had a couple of drinks, everything was fine.
The band is now touring with "Change of Hart" which had a great set except
the crowd was kind of quiet and not into it,(Although there were a few
devoted fans there. They played for 40 minutes or so (Great stuff.)
When the equipment and sound was set up, Raine, Mike, Duncan, and Jeremy
took the stage.
Here, to the best of our knowledge is the playlist for the show:
1. Car Crash
2. Birdman
3. Supersatelite
4. Superman's Dead
5. Automatic Flowers
6. Hope
7. Carnival
8. Big Dumb Rocket
9. Clumsy
10.Starseed
11.Shaking
12.Let you down
13.4am
14.Julia
15.Naveed
16.Tomorrow Never Knows (Beatles cover tune on "The Craft" soundtrack)
First of all I must say this was a great sounding show, the highs were
crisp, Raines voice was great, and the bass was tight and deep, I would love
to have this show on disc, really it was great!!
This is the third time I've seen OLP and definately the most entertaining
show of the three, maybe because of the new tunes (which are great), or
maybe because the band seems more into the show and are really proud of the
new album (the last time I saw them was in Nov'94 at the Brookdale in Barrie).
To all the people at the Kingston show, I can't blame them for not finishing
the show because of the barricade, last nights show was insane if you were
up front, I mean I've been in many mosh pits before but this was crazy, the
band would have been hit with beer, hats, people amongst other things.
During "Big Dumb Rocket" Raine tells the story of this song, it's based on a
story about a friend of his that lives in Florida, who owns a 9mm Beretta
Handgun, and it is his first time he's ever held a handgun, and he is kind
of scared of it, so he pops out the clip, which holds 12 bullets, he then
thinks he is safe holding an unloaded handgun (little does he know there is
still one bullet in the chamber. He then decides to play a joke on his
friend who is now in the shower. I am not sure how badly the friend was
wounded but he said he would never touch a handgun again.
In closing, I hope anyone who is thinking of checking them out, does so I
garantee you won't be dissappointed.
